July and August 2015

Donna Flaherty

Donna Flaherty is the Geneseo Parish Outreach Center's "Volunteer of the Month," for July and August where she lends her physician assistant's skills once a month for the benefit of our clients.
For 23 years, she worked at the Tri-County Medicine practice, in their Nunda office, and for ten years, she has been serving on our GPOC staff on her assigned Thursday schedule.     She received her undergraduate degree in Connecticut and earned her Physician Assistant credentials while enrolled in Yale University's program. She has always worked in either Family Practice or Internal Medicine practices during the ensuing years.
While employed in Cape Cod, she met her future husband, who served in the U.S. Air Force, which meant moving around the country as his assignments progressed. They are the parents of four adult children, have one grandchild, have another grand baby on the way, and also fostered children as they were raising their own children.
Donna's membership in the "Heart Cry Christian Fellowship" church (located between Naples and Honeoye) has found her serving as a nursery classroom volunteer, continuing her interest in mentoring children. She also has been involved with their children in crisis ministry.
Currently, the couple reside on their own farm, in Sparta, which included three horses, cows, chicken, and ducks, as they attempt to "live off the land." It all started with their ownership of horses, which they had "boarded out", and now this little "farmette" is providing lots of enjoyment and enrichment for them.
Donna, in addition to riding horses, enjoys knitting and reading. Our GPOC is very grateful for her caring attention to our clients for these past ten years, and her current interim service as our GPOC Board of Directors President. We extend our thanks for all of her efforts on behalf this outreach ministry.
